Geographical Location
Ninh Binh is an important strategic location for economic and cultural exchanges between the Red River basin and the Ma river basin, between the Northern Delta and the Northwestern forests and mountains of the country.
In the province, there are National Highway 1A, National Highway 10; 12A; 12B and the North-South railway run through the dense river systems such as Day River, Hoang Long River, Can River, Vac River and Van River..., creating a waterway network, which is very convenient for exchanges and economic development inside and outside the province.


Ethnic People
Ninh Binh is an area inhabited very early. Archaeologists have discovered bones, fossil teeth in Thung Lang (Tam Diep) dating from three - four thousand years ago. The Cave of Prehistoric Man in Cuc Phuong have a sign of human beings nearly ten thousand years ago. The vestiges of Hoa Binh culture are also found in some caves in Tam Diep town, reflecting the trend of people going to the plains near foot of mountains that located next to the sea. The Silver Pagoda (Yen Mo) has a relic of the people of the brass period from 3,300 to 3,700 years.

Ninh Binh has two main ethnic groups: the Kinh and the Muong. At present, there are more than 50,000 Muong living alternately with Kinh people, mainly in Cuc Phuong, Ky Phu, Quang Lac, Phu Long, Yen Quang, Xe Tho, Thach Binh and Van Phuong communes in Nho Quan district.



Topography
The topography of Ninh Binh is divided into three distinct areas: hilly and mountainous areas in the west and northwest; the delta; and the eastern and southern coasts.

The limestone mountain in the west of the province runs in the direction of the Northwest - Southeast. Originating from mountainous area of ​​Hoa Binh, together they form the ancient alluvium near the foot of the mountain. The process started from more than 200 million years ago, creating many beautiful caves such as Tam Coc, Bich Dong, Xuyen Thuy Dong, Dich Luong, Trang An cave, etc.
There are valley forming Ninh Binh's districts such as Nho Quan, Gia Vien, Hoa Lu, Yen Mo. With alluvium deposited annually, the plains reach the sea level from 80 - 100m, creating new fertile land.
The three regions can supplement and support each other to develop a comprehensive commodity economy of food crops, industrial crops, fruit trees, aquaculture and marine products as well as building materials industry and agricultural product.

Due to its geography and diversified terrain, Ninh Binh's climate is also characterized by its northern delta climate and affected by the climate of Thanh Hoa.

Rivers - Hydrology
The river systems in Ninh Binh include the Day River system, Hoang Long river, Boi river, An river, Vac river, Lang river and Van Sang river with a total length of 496 km, widely distributed throughout the province.
The average flow of rivers and streams is 0.5km /km2. The rivers often flow in the direction of the North West - South East to the East Sea. The tide regime in Ninh Binh is the diurnal tide, in addition there are cases of semi-diurnal tide and tide.
Tide time in about 8 hours, tide down to 16 hours. At high tide, the time of up and down is ± 1 hour. In general, the tide of Ninh Binh is relatively weak, the average tidal amplitude of the day is about 150-180cm, the largest is 270cm, the smallest is 2-5cm.


Natural Resources

Land Resources
Ninh Binh land is divided into 19 types, grouped into 5 basic groups, in which the alluvial soil is 74,529.8ha, accounting for 53% of the province's natural area.
The land resources of Ninh Binh have average fertility with three types of topography: hills, mountains, plains and coastal areas, so the province has the strength to develop agriculture and forestry in the direction of diversification. The hills and mountains have great potential to transform agricultural economic structure and industrial development, especially the building materials industry.
Forest Resources
The characteristics of topography and climate made Ninh Binh become the largest forest area compared to the Red River Delta provinces: 27,101ha.

Natural forest area is 23,526 ha, mainly concentrated in Nho Quan. In particular, Cuc Phuong forest is typical of tropical forests. There are many kinds of rare and precious plants and animals such as abstainers, moths, leopard, foxes, ...

The area of planted forest is 3,575 ha, concentrated in Nho Quan, Hoa Lu, Kim Son, Tam Diep town, with the main crops are pine, acacia, eucalyptus, mangrove.
Marine Resources
Ninh Binh has a coastline of approximately 18km, with thousands of hectares of mudflats, dozens of hectares of territorial sea.
Cua Day is the largest one, which has enough relative depth to ensure large vessels in and out conveniently.

Ninh Binh has the potential to cultivate, exploit and capture marine resources with the output of 2,000 - 2,500 tons / year.
Natural Resources
Limestone is the largest mineral resource of Ninh Binh. The mountains stretch from Hoa Binh, in the direction of Northwest - Southeast, through Nho Quan, Gia Vien, Hoa Lu, Tam Diep town, Yen Mo to the East Sea, more than 40km long, with an area of ​​over 1,200ha. It serves as the large amount of raw materials for cement and construction materials.
In addition, Ninh Binh also has natural mineral water with large reserves of good quality, concentrating mainly in Cuc Phuong (Nho Quan) and Kenh Ga (Gia Vien) to serve as drinks, medical treatment and tourist services.

Transportation
System
Roads, railways, waterways are convenient. Ninh Binh is located on the North-South railway, National Highway 1A, more than 90km from Hanoi. The province has national highway 10 to Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, national highway 12B to Hoa Binh.
